Gameplay
In Inkling you and your fellow players are guessing words from ink splashes. You each receive 8 cards with letter ink splashes on them and one objective card. On the objective card you find 6 words you can try to spell with the letter cards in order to score points.
The game plays over three turns. Each turn players form words simultaneously in front of them, which the players next to them have to guess right! After this you try to guess the words of your neigbours and write your answers down on the score sheet. You score points if you guess the word(s) of your neigbours and they guess yours.
In between turns, you are able to discard up to two cards and draw back the amount you discarded. After this you draw another three cards to add to your hand. This means that in the third round you have a total of 14 letter cards, and thus you can probably make the most out of your lettercards at the end of the game.
At the end of the game you calculate scores, the player with the highest score, wins the game.
Thoughts
Inkling is a very fun little game with a short learning curve. It's that kind of game that you can just pick from your shelf and start playing immediately. I higly appreciate these kind of games, as they are perfect for after dinner parties or to put on the table during a break or so.
Because you are able to switch some cards you have a little management as to what letters you will be working with. I think that is an important aspect of the game, since sometimes your starting hand just isn't great to work with. With the addition of the three cards you get more options in the end. I really like it that the longer you play the more letters you get to play around with.
The first time I payed the game it felt like there was only one word you could make every turn. I thought that was a pity, because how cool is it to make multiple words and in that way score more points! But, the second time I played it, I tried my best and I pulled it of to make two words, two times even! So even with it being a simple little word game, you can still improve yourself a bit.
If you like party games with words, this will definitely be a match for you!
