Gameplay
In this game players compete to become the most blosseming city in ancient Greece!
Players simultaneously pick 2 of 7 action tiles to perform this round, after gaining some income. With these actions players develop on different tracks; Philosophy, Legislation, Culture, Trade, Military, Politics, or Development.
All tracks correlate with one another, which ensures some interesting choices.
At the end of a round an event will be resolved, giving
or taking something. After 9 events the game ends, most points, wins the game.
Thoughts
👍 The gameplay is solid and accessible.
👍 The components are absolutely gorgeous with double layered boards and everything.
👍 I really like the assymetrical playermats and the fact that there is some historical information about that specific character on the back. I also like that there are many to choose from.
👍 I love getting all the rewards and bonusses from the tracks. It's very rewarding to improve actions with the cards or by developing your city.
➖ There is no startplayertoken, it would've been nice to have one.
➖ I'm a tiny bit worried about the chance factor of drawing the right political cards. I haven't played enough of it to ensure this is not an issue.
Solomode
There is a simple solomode available through bgg. It feels a bit wonky, but is good enough to have fun with the game if there are no other players around.
A copy of this game was provided to me by White Goblin Games for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.
