My experiences with: Het Spellenhuis

  • Board game store & café
  • The Hague & Haarlem

Lately I've visited the Spellenhuis a couple of times in order to play some games in their so called Boardroom. The Spellenhuis is situated on the Torenstraat right in the middle of  the Hague and they also own another location in Haarlem on the Kruisweg very near to the train station. I haven't had the opportunity to visit the one in Haarlem yet, but I'll happily share my experiences with the Spellenhuis in the Hague:

In the Hague, their store is situated downstairs and the two floors upstairs are reserved for the Boardroom, a board game cafe with a large bar where they serve all sorts of drinks (yes, even a wide variety of cocktails is available!) and snacks. I still really would like to try the nachos on the menu. Entrance for the boardroom is 5 euros per person and with your ticket you can also get a 10% discount on a game of choice downstairs after you’re done gaming.

First time I walked in there, I noticed they display some board games as true art pieces on the walls, I really liked gazing at those while walking up the stairs. Scanning the room for some games my eyes quickly locked on a wall filled with a nice selection of the hottest games at the moment like Cascadia and Everdell mixed together with some evergreen classics like Ticket To Ride and Azul.

I really appreciate the laid back atmosphere of the place. They say board games are for everyone and they really do feel inviting. Every Friday from 19:30 they host so called Meet Ups, where people who are not aquinted meet up to play some games together. This is a great way to meet new friends and form game groups together. It gave me a smile hearing even a mariage came forth of such an evening. How great to meet your loved one in a board game cafe?!

Well, I think it is not a secrert I'm pretty excited about the Spellenhuis and their boardrooms. I’m definitely spending another summerevening there soon. Will I see you there?

I have been sponsored by Het Spellenhuis to share my honest experience with you. So I did ✌
