Gameplay
This is an open world adventure book. It tells the story of a rediscovering of a world after a global collapse caused by the ash war and it does so in a very puzzly way. Throughout the book you get to make various choices, which each will guide you to different storylines. This results in you skipping chapters, jumping back or forward in the book, all the while creating your own personal story. You can keep track of most your choices on the character sheet and accompanied map. Sometimes you can only make a choice based upon earlier decisions. The game has multiple endings and can be read, or should I say 'played' more than once.
Thoughts
As I'm really into adventure books and also really into building up my own character while playing a game, I was very pleased to hear about Alba, which combines the two very nicely. It really adds an extra dimension on top of just reading a book. Something I really liked and what felt innovative to me. I also really liked the story. It's written really well and I was constantly very curious as to what would happen further on in the story. The fact that you can or cannot go to certain places based upon choices you made in the past is something I highly appreciate and I will be making a trip to the Lost World again sometime soon I guess.
A copy of this game was provided to me by Inside the Box Board Games for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.
