Board game review & gameplay of: Bitoku

Gameplay

In Bitoku, players pay as Bitoku spirits, with the goal of elevating themselves and becoming the next great spirit of the forest.

In order to do so, they have Yokai (cards) to play on their playerboards, which gives a certain action.

Playing a Yokai unlocks a die, which can be used in a later turn to perform actions on the board in a workerplacement way.

Pelgrims can walk certain pathways to collect resources and points and unlocking them also scores some points at game end.

This is a handmanagement, resource collection game which was very popular at #spiel2022.

Thoughts

Bitoku looks absolutely beautiful and quite overwhelming, in its core it’s very well streamlined and designed in a logical sense

👍The looks of this #eurogame are truly great! The graphic design of the game however looks a bit overwhelming. I think this is not supportive of the gameplay, causing unnecessary confusion

👍 The game's mechanisms work very well together, are quite straightforward and well balanced. There are several ways to collect points and so far I have not seen one being overpowered yet

👍The gamelength is just about right, although I must mention I havent played a 4 player game yet

➖There are not really new aspects in the game design, not very innovative
