Metro X, also called Voll Verplant in German and Metrolijn in Dutch, is a flip and write game in which players try to create the most efficient routes to victory!
Play is simultaneous, with one player drawing a card each round showing a number. All players have to place the shown number in one of the wagons and get to put crosses on the map beginning on the next available empty space in that line.
When a space is already occupied, it cannot be skipped, but the player has to stop drawing immediately, losing the rest of the crosses. When a line is finished, all players cross off this line and can only score the lower value points.
Play continues until all wagons are filled. Highest points wins.
There are 4 cards with special abilities in the game, making you skip crosses, shuffle the deck, and create transfers.
👍 I like how quick and easy this puzzly game is. Not too much thinking, just plug and play after a busy day!
👍 I like how there are 4 maps included, this definitely ensures some variety, besides the deck being shuffled a lot of course.
👍 It’s a very nice puzzle to complete your lines. You really have to anticipate on the random draws of the deck.
➖ There are no pencils included, if you buy this game in ‘the wild’ this might be annoying
➖ Even though a lot of fun, this game is not very innovative
The solomode works great. In fact, even when playing together it feels a bit solo-y because everyone is working on their own little puzzle. It’s easy to pick up and fun to beat your own highscore!
A copy of this game was provided to me by 999 Games for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.BGG
