Gameplay

In Stellar Expedition players explore the galaxy, establish embassies to recruit new crew members and use their specific powers to complete missions in order to gain those sweet expedition points, which you require to win the game!

A round exists of the following phases:

1. Production phase, players collect resources from their starting location plus at their present location if theyve built an embassy there

2. Discovery phase, players place new location tiles to explore

3. Sensor phase, players face encounters or gain rewards

4. Command phase, in which layers get to move, build embassies, recruit crew members and complete missions by playing the crew members from hand needed for that specific mission.

After 8 rounds the game ends and players count their final scores.

Thoughts

👍There is a lot of background information available on the cards of the crew members and planets. I always like it when designers have created an entire world to unravel.

👍 The game feels solid and has integrated a lot of fun mechanics.

👍 The illustrations are great

👍/➖ Scores can be spread out a bit. It’s good to be aware of this.

➖ There is a bit of luck involved. This can work against you if you're not really getting the crew members you need, or have some bad luck drawing new mission cards.
