Gameplay

This on Clank! based deckbuilding game is designed by none other than the designer of Magic the Gathering.

In the Hunger players play as hungry vampires running out of their castle into the open fields and into the woods in search of human blood! But, since they remain vampires, they’ll have to be back home before the sun comes up, which will happen after 15 turns.

Whoever collects the most points by biting the most humans, collecting the most treasures or running deep into the forest to collect that high value rose, wins the game! But as stated above, when not on a safe space in time, all points will be lost and your vampire will have to try again in the next game.

Players take turns playing the three cards in their hand which all have a certain speed (although sometimes this equals 0) and might contain a special power besides that.

Thoughts

👍 I’m a huge fan of Clank! and this game feels refreshingly different, while still containing all the fun elements from it.

👍 The components and artwork are great!

👍 I appreciate how the theme fits the gameplay. In the beginning players run fast and biting a human gives extra speed, but quickly humans will slow you down. This brings me to the next point:

👍 I like the puzzle that comes with the game, when do you turn around? Shall I bite or play it safe? Where to go, what to do? There are a lot of options to choose from, making the game feel different every time you play.

👍 The missioncards are a nice addition

➖ It feels too difficult to make it back home alive. The hard side of the board is way to difficult in my opinion and it does not fit the push your luck element.

➖ Getting the rose should feel rewarding, but it doesn’t. It’s reward is not big enough to risk not getting back in time. Every time I went for the rose I ended up scoring fewer points than my opponents, which feels like a flaw.
