Gameplay

Every player chooses a hero together with its accompanying mini and playmat. The heroes will explore the dungeon from scratch, in search for the evil boss.

On a turn players can walk their own indicated amount of steps to uncover new rooms, perform one main action and as many free actions as needed.

There are several different roomtiles, some will bring new monsters in the dungeon, some will have traps and some have a nice special action which you can perform only there.

After a turn, the torch goes down a space. When the torch is all the way to zero, the players will lose the game. When the boss is defeated before this, the players will win the game!

The expansion Stories adds a bunch of new characters and monsters together with stories, quests that come with certain room tiles. A fun addition to an already great game!

Thoughts

👍 With each hero coming with their own specialties, the vast amount of different room tiles, monsters, spells and items there definitely is a lot to explore.

👍I really appreciate how you are able to make your heroes stronger with items and spells you find along the way. The fact that certain items go well together and give you a little extra power makes me really happy.

👍 The monsters don’t just stay in one place but all have their own way of moving and attacking.

👍 The game feels huge, yet comes in a small package. The mini's and monstermeeples are amazing!

❌ Some players find the game a bit on the difficult side, me and my partner however were definitely able to defeat the boss several times now

Solomode

You play with 2-4 heroes. It plays just as well as with 2 players, but you can’t play it with only 1 hero.

A copy of this game was provided to me by Gamelyn Games for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.
