Gameplay

Players start with a cauldron and 5 action tiles to choose from.

Players alternate turns placing 1 tile in the cauldron, performing 2 actions visible. How many of the same actions are connected to this tile determines how many may be executed.

Play continues until each player has 4 tiles left. Then players count scores.

The actions:

🪄Wand
Lets you move on the wand track, gaining you bonuses and points

🧙‍♀️Witch
Lets you move witches on the board and to different places, connected via energy, your own or your opponents (costs more actions). When a witch lands on a location the player scores points.

💎Crystal
Lets you move the crystals in your cauldron. When moved to the corners of the cauldron, it’ll give extra actions of the space you landed upon

💠Energy
For each action available you may place energy on the board, connecting places to score points and clear a pathway for witches

📜Spells
Gives you 1 time extra actions or end of game bonuses

⚪Pentagram
Lets you move on the pentagtram track, scoring you points and gaining you bonus actions, temporarily or throughout the game.

Thoughts

👍 Witchstone is a fun game in which you keep trying to get the most out of your actions. Like other games from Knizia, the game has simple turns, but also some decisions to think about.

👍 The puzzly mechanic is a lot of fun that keeps drawing me to play the game again. I like how there are different paths to victory. I’ve played the game 7 times now and I’m not done exploring.

👍 Actions get better as the game progresses

➖👍 The artwork is solid. Nothing too fancy, but it works well with the theme that is not too present in the game. It sure is a lot of fun, but I’m not feeling like a wizard while playing😅
