Gameplay
In this game you try to save the villagers and beat the evil Sheriff.
Each player draws a starting party of 4 band members, each coming with a different set of attributes (Wit, Stealth, Brawn and Jolliness). Each player also has a band leader with specific attributes. These are tracked on the player boards and skill tokens are taken if shown.
In the middle of the table, villagers are being held captive. These can be freed during the game by attacking guards. This can be done in 3 ways (wit, stealth and brawn have different ways of attacking them).
On the 5th day (round), the merry bands are off to attack the castle in order to free Robin Hood. When the players succeed, they win the game. After freeing Robin Hood, they also get a chance to beat the Sheriff.
Thoughts
I really like Robin Hood, the movie charmed me when I was a little kid and I loved playing this game with the wide variety of personages I recognised. Friar Tuck, Lady Marianne, Little John, they are all there.
This is a fun game, it reminds me a bit of a dungeon crawler, but with an entirely different theme!
👍 The gameplay is solid
👍 The rules are clear
👍 A lot of variety in setup, so a high replayability
👍 Lots of characters are present
👍 Fun to play solo
➖ Artwork is simple, but it works for the game
➖ For the solomode I couldn't really work out how the 5th day worked.
Solomode
The solomode is very simple and overall it plays well. I was a bit confused though about a rule or two on the final day when attacking all the guards in a row.
A copy of this game was provided to me by Castillo Games for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.
