Gameplay

Horizons of Spirit Island contains the same gameplay as the original Spirit Island game. The differences are that this new version has a smaller box size, somewhat easier spirits to choose from and components that ensure a quicker setup. And let’s not forget, the game comes with a cheaper price, roundabout half of the bigger sibling.

The gameplay

Horizons of Spirit Island, is a cooperative board game designed for 1-3 players, in which each player takes on the role of a powerful spirit defending the island from invading colonizers.

The game requires players to work together to drive out the invaders before they overwhelm the island. Each spirit has unique abilities, allowing for a wide range of playstyles and strategies.

The game is won by removing all of the invaders from the island, but the challenge increases as the invaders become stronger and more numerous.

Thoughts

Overall, I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a strategic coop game.

Because I didn’t get the chance to play the original Spirit Island, this is not a comparative review, but I must say: its so small and accessibly priced in compared to the original! And I like the spirits can be combined with the original an vice versa.

👍 I really like the playguide that is added to the rules in a separate booklet. It takes the players by the hand as if it were a tutorial. Again, really accessible.

👍 The board is great and tokens work well.

👍The game offers a depth of strategy and complexity that I really enjoy, and the cooperative nature of the game makes it a great option for playing with friends.

👍The artwork and theme are both really well-done and help to immerse players in the game's world.

👍I also appreciate the high degree of replayability that Spirit Island offers, with so many different spirits, adversaries, and gameplay options to choose from.

➖This game is a bit prone to getting a bit AP. Playing solo is a bit better because you are not overthinking every option of the other spirits, only your own.

Solomode

To play solo you only play with one spirit (or more if you wish) and on one islandpart. It is a very nice puzzle, incredibly well sooted for solo games, can highly recommend it.

A copy of this game was provided to me by Greater Than Games for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.
