Cartographers Heroes is a standalone sequel to the regular Cartographers, which I really really like! So, what's new?
- Hero cards; these are cards that attack monsters, by destroying squares.
- New ambush cards, that come with unique abilities, which makes them more important during the game
- Two new map sheets (front and back)
- New scoring cards
The gameplay does not change that much. There are still 4 seasons to walk through and you draw one of the options that is flipped this turn. However, the new ambush cards and heroes cards really do add to the newness of the game.
I really like the new ambush cards' abilities, it makes the game more interesting in between rounds when for example new zombies have to be drawn.. And the fact that monsters can be destroyed in this game using the heroes is a fun new mechanism. A minor setback for me is that the heroes sometimes are times before the monsters ambushes. This way you have to place the hero and your opponent can just easily place the monsters somewhere else.
The new scoring cards and the mini expansion that lets you use your coins really fresh up the game.
Besides just epicness and awesomeness I must add that the solo is not really as balanced as the regular Cartographers. Feels like I'm some sort of cartographers wizard scoring this many points!

A copy of this game was provided to me by Intrafin for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.BGG
