Gameplay
In chai you play a sommeliers trying to fullfill orders of your customers!
On your turn you may choose one of three actions; buy ingredients on the market, pick some spices or reserve a customer and perform a special action.
After each turn you may fullfill one order, a reserved one or one that's available for everyone. You place the ingredients in one of the cups and take a bonus tile. A round is finished when all bonustiles are taken and the game ends after 4 rounds. Players then tally up scores from their coins and customers and the highest score wins the game!
Thoughts
GOOD POINTS
- The game has beautiful components and an awesome table presence. I really like the touch and feel of putting the ingredients in the cups when fullfilling an order.
- The game is easy to learn and teach, I really like the simplicity of the game, just perform one of three actions. This makes it also great fun with children
- I love the theme a lot! Tea is my most favourite drink of all times ☺️
- I like the quirkiness of how big this game is for its actual gamelength and depth. When you feel like playing a small game, you get to feel like playing a big game 💛
- There are a lot of different modes of play, regular, cooperative and three ways to solo! 😍
NEGATIVE POINTS
- The game is really big for its actual gameplay, I also mentioned it being a good thing, but I can imagine people feeling a bit mislead.
- Nothing really happens with the filled up cups. Maybe it would have been nice to have another step after or needing to clean the cups or so.. Why don't the ingredients just go back in the bags?
All in all, Chai is a beautiful game which I really appreciate. It's a quick game for in between but it feels like a bigger game having such great components
A copy of this game was provided to me by Steeped Games for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.
