In this game viking clans compete with one another over harvests at sea! It plays over two phases. In the first phase the players play their hand of cards, placing boats and switching sea creatures to different locations. In the second phase, when all cards have been played and thus also all boats are placed at their final destination, the player with the most boats at location A gets first pick on harvest at this location, continuing to the one with the least amount of boats on this particular location. Then the same goes for locations B and C until all boats have picked their harvest.
After this the players calculate their victory points, together with the points they may have earned throught their secret mission they gained at the start of the game. The one with the most points wins the game.
The quality of the gamecomponents is phenomenal! From the premium cards with beautiful artwork, the thick cardboard used for the board and axe tokens to the rulebook. The only negative thing I could find is that the game box is really large for what's inside it. But still, it looks and feels really good!
The gameplay feels really solid. You can play it very fast if you choose, but if you take your time you'll find that there's quite some strategy attached to it. There is also a two player variant, that lets you discard a card after taking one, which can really bite you in the ass; if you are not paying attention you end up taking only one card where you placed three boats!
All in all, a great thinky beautiful little cardgame!
A copy of this game was provided to me by Inside the Box Board Games for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.
